Texas Tech Starts $45 Million Res. Hall Project

LUBBOCK, Texas — As a result of significant increases in enrollment, Texas Tech University recently broke ground on a new $45 million, 178,000-square-foot residence hall slated for completion before the fall 2012 semester.

The project was designed by Texas-based BOKA Powell LLC, a full-service architectural design, planning and interior design firm, with Austin Commercial serving as the contractor.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Aging facilities, budget cuts and a heavy carbon footprint: the dilemmas facing school districts across the nation.

Colorado’s Mesa County School District 51, however, was able to make upgrades to its on-average 38-year-old buildings that are expected to save more than $617,000 per year in energy costs, and more than $390,000 in operating and maintenance costs over the next five years  – all without a tax increase.
