Skanska AB recently named Shawn Hurley president and CEO for Skanska USA Commercial Development, which has invested $1.5 billion in sustainable developments since 2009. Hurley succeeds Mats Johansson, who has served as the president and CEO of the unit since its launch in the U.S. in 2009, and will assume his new role on Jan. 1.
K-12 education expert Pam Loeffelman, FAIA, has joined DLR Group. She will lead the firm’s K-12 design studios throughout the Southwest from DLR Group’s Denver office. Loeffelman will be a member of the global K-12 team, partnering with other DLR Group education experts to set the strategy for growth both domestically and internationally. For the past 35 years, Loeffelman has been actively engaged in a dialogue about the return on investment of educational designs.
Tom Marquardt, SBID, IIDA, has recently been hired in HDR’s Chicago office as a design principal. A veteran in the industry with 29 years of experience, Marquardt comes to HDR after leading his own successful interdisciplinary design and branded environments studio in Chicago, which he founded in 1988. Prior to that, he worked for two firms designing corporate and commercial interior projects ranging from office test fit plans to high-end showrooms.
Thomas Calhoun Jr., vice president of enrollment management at the University of North Alabama (UNA), was unanimously chosen to be the new president of Chicago State University. Calhoun will begin his new duties in January 2016, overseeing the operations of the university’s five colleges and approximately 4,800 students.
AECOM, headquartered in Los Angeles, appointed Christopher O. Ward as senior vice president, chief executive in New York. In this role, Ward leads strategic growth and profitability of the design and consulting services group in the New York City metro area. Prior to joining AECOM, Ward served as executive vice president for major projects at Dragados USA, headquartered in New York, where he was responsible for significant business development throughout the United States.
The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education recently named Thomas M. Mitzel, Ph.D., as the next president of Dickinson State University (DSU). Mitzel currently serves as the dean of faculty and vice president of academic affairs for Trinity College in Connecticut, a position he has held since 2013. Prior to his time at Trinity College, Mitzel spent nearly two years as dean of the School of Sciences and interim director of the Wild Basin Creative Research Center at St.
SAF (Southern Aluminum Finishing Co.) recently promoted Matt Welker to account manager. Working in the SAF Atlanta headquarters, Welker is now responsible for SAF sales in the upper Midwest and Southeast, including Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Board of Directors announced that USGBC’s Chief Operating Officer Mahesh Ramanujam has been named incoming chief executive officer, and will move into the role after Rick Fedrizzi, co-founder of USGBC and current CEO, steps down at the end of 2016. Ramanujam joined USGBC in 2009 as senior vice president of technology before being named COO in September 2011.
