The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has presented John Clements, former director of transportation for Kings Canyon Unified School District in San Joaquin Valley, Calif., with the region’s prestigious Environmental Champion award. Clements was recognized for his work to deploy zero-emission, battery-electric school buses and refrigerated lunch delivery trucks in the San Joaquin Valley, and for his statewide work as a clean transportation advocate.
Valerie Greer, AIA, LEED AP, vice president and senior architect at HOK’s St. Louis office was named in this year’s St. Louis Business Journal 40 Under 40 class honoring young professionals. Greer served on the core design team for the $12.5 million, 5.5 million-square-foot King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest LEED Platinum project.
Mark Kranz, AIA, LEED AP is now the design director for the Phoenix, Ariz. office of SmithGroupJJR. Kranz is a member of the firm’s Science & Technology practice, and specializes in highly complex academic teaching and research facilities. Kranz is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies. He later went on to Arizona State University, where he earned a master’s of architecture degree.
LPA Design Principal Wendy Rogers has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Rogers’ 27-year architectural career with LPA has also been recognized with 35 national, state and component AIA awards for her design work with K-12 schools. Rodgers specializes in the integration of design and curriculum and co-authored “The LPA Green School Primer: Lessons in Sustainability.” She currently serves on the U.S.
KSQ Architects of Grapevine, Texas, has announced the addition of Douglas Koehne, AIA, as the firm’s new director of K-12 planning. In his new role, Koehne will be responsible for design, programming, planning and project management for K-12 school districts across Texas and the southwest. Koehne brings 20 years experience to the firm, including the planning, programming, assessment and design of both new school construction and facility renovation.
The San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) has named Christopher Manis its Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management. Manis will oversee facilities and construction for California’s second-largest community college district. In addition, he will be responsible for the SDCCD Police and the district’s $1.6 billion bond construction program.
Thomas W. Butcher, CPA, has joined STV as the company’s new chief financial officer. Here, he will oversee the firm’s corporate financial management and its information technology department. Butcher began his career at Ernst & Young, LLP, and has more than 25 years experience in corporate finance. He also has worked in the architectural, engineering and construction management industries.
Ed Clarke has been named to lead the Maryland Center for School Safety based in Baltimore. Clarke, a former police officer and retired captain, has been involved in school security issues since 2000. He served for six years as school safety and security director of the Montgomery County Public School System, is a school safety consultant and has been active in efforts to increase the number of resource officers in local high schools.
International design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman has announced the addition of Nicolas Ryan AIA, LEED AP. Ryan will now serve as an associate principal at the firm’s New York office. Hehas extensive professional experience in the areas of design and project leadership, and has worked primarily on higher education, cultural and transit facilities.
The Board of Directors of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI) recently contracted current CEO John K. Ramsey for a further six years. Ramsey has served the industry in multiple capacities, including government relations, marketing/communications, membership and as an executive director and chief executive officer.
