ORANGE PARK, Fla. 鈥 Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) has expanded its health sciences footprint in Northeast Florida with an Orange Park campus that will house osteopathic medicine and veterinary medicine programs. PHOENIX 鈥 Creighton University has reached an agreement on the construction of a new, nearly $100 million health sciences campus at Park Central in midtown Phoenix, a significant expansion of the university鈥檚 current presence in the state.

The project will be broken into two phases, with phase one to include a new 200,000-square-foot building that will eventually house nearly 800 Creighton health sciences students in Arizona.

The expansion will include a four-year medical school, nursing school, occupational and physical therapy schools, pharmacy school, physician assistant school and emergency medical services program. A second building adjacent to the first may be added in the future.

The new building will be located along Central Avenue on the Park Central property, on land that is currently a parking lot. Construction on the new building will begin in spring 2019, the first on the Park Central site in decades, and is expected to be completed in spring 2021.

Creighton鈥檚 new Phoenix campus will meet the University鈥檚 current needs while providing ample room for expansion in the future, and the central Phoenix location makes it convenient for students doing their residencies and other studies at nearby hospitals.

鈥淐reighton University is preparing for an exciting new era in Phoenix, one that combines our tradition for educational excellence in the health sciences with our distinctive Jesuit, Catholic mission,鈥 said the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD, president of Creighton University. 鈥淐reighton University has strong connections to the Arizona medical community, and we look forward to expanding our impact by educating many more exceptionally qualified health care professionals to serve the community moving forward.鈥

The new Creighton University facility is also a significant boost for the revitalization of Park Central. Sharon Harper, president & CEO of Plaza Companies that is redeveloping Park Central in partnership with Holualoa Companies, said Creighton is an ideal fit for the project.

鈥淭he new Park Central will have a focus not only on the creation of world-class office, retail and public spaces, but also on a commitment to health and innovation,鈥 said Harper. 鈥淐reighton University鈥檚 commitment to innovating in health care education makes it a great partner, and we couldn鈥檛 be more pleased to have them join the Park Central family.鈥

]]> DETROIT — Detroit Public Schools issued more than $210 million in capital improvement bonds needed to move forward on a $500.5 million district-wide construction and renovation program.

The sale included $160.9 million in Qualified School Construction Bonds and $49.6 million in Build America Bonds, both of which were authorized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, according to reports.

The funds will support the district’s three-year capital improvement plan, which will close dozens of schools and consolidate other facilities in response to an enrollment loss of nearly 100,000 students since 1997. One renovation project has already been completed, and another nine are under way. Another eight projects are expected to start up this fall.

School projects currently under construction include a $20.5 million PreK-8 school in Detroit’s Brightmoor neighborhood, a $45.3 million replacement Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School, and a $20.5 million PreK-8 school in the neighborhood of Clark Park, all of which are expected complete by next fall.

DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb stated that funds from the recent bond sales will be available Oct. 28 and spent over three years. The district, which saw a greater than expected increase in its enrollment this year, faces a deficit of $363 million for fiscal year 2011 with a budget of $1.025 billion, according to sources.
