SAN MARCOS, Calif.鈥擥eneral contractor Erickson-Hall Construction Co. and its partners have topped out on the Palomar College Athletics Stadium, a project the firm commenced on earlier this year. The topping-out coincides with the firm鈥檚 first quarter-century in business.

The athletics complex entails new football and softball fields at the Palomar Community College main campus. Working in conjunction with HMC Architects, Erickson-Hall anticipates delivering the completed athletic facility for the community college next year.

鈥淏eing chosen to construct these new and important facilities for Palomar College is an honor,鈥 Mat Gates, President of Erickson-Hall, said of the work. 鈥淥ur team is working hard to deliver two innovative stadiums for Palomar College, each [providing] spaces for student-athletes to train, compete and enjoy, and for spectators to watch various sports with exceptional visibility.鈥

Added Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey, superintendent and president of Palomar College: 鈥淓rickson-Hall has extensive experience in the construction of athletic facilities specifically for schools, and we are excited about the tremendous work in progress. These two new stadiums represent an incredible opportunity to serve our student athletes and our surrounding communities.鈥

In its first 25 years in business, Erickson-Hall has completed $2 billion in construction work, $1.5 billion of which was in the educational sector. The firm provides such services as preconstruction, general contracting, construction management, design-build, design assist-build, and lease-leaseback.

VISTA, Calif.鈥擥eneral contracting firm Erickson-Hall Construction Co. is working to bring the new Career Technology Education (CTE) building to Rancho Buena Vista High School. The firm recently broke ground on the CTE, which is being funded thanks to the voter-approved Measure LL, which allocated $247 million in bond funds to upgrade colleges throughout this area of San Diego County.

The CTE, located at 1601 Longhorn Dr. in Vista, will help train students for various professional capacities and vocations through a program of various hands-on courses and career-preparation materials. Among the specific fields of instruction to be offered at the CTE will be construction, metalworking and welding.

Architect of record AlphaStudio Design Group is working with Erickson-Hall on the project, which recently broke ground at a ceremony attended by the designers as well as personnel from Rancho Buena Vista High School.

鈥淲ith this new CTE building, we will be able to expand career and technical education access to students aligned to the growing priority work sectors in San Diego County and the Southern California region,鈥 Dr. Matt Doyle, superintendent of Vista Unified School District, said during the groundbreaking ceremony. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about how this facility will transform the educational experience for our students and expand their career opportunities upon graduation.鈥

Jim Fisher, project executive for Erickson-Hall Construction, said that locating the CTE on the existing campus grounds of Rancho Buena Vista High School proved to be a bit of a logistical and safety-related headache.

鈥淟ike most educational projects, we鈥檙e working in an environment where staff, students, and teachers are in close proximity鈥攅ven in the summer months,鈥 Fisher said. 鈥淎t Rancho Buena Vista, we鈥檙e between educational buildings and the very popular ball fields.

鈥淭he key is to collaborate closely with鈥aintenance staff, teachers [and] district leadership to ensure frequent and open communication. As such, we鈥檝e stayed completely in tune with the sports schedules.鈥

Fisher also stated that the CTE has been an especially rewarding project for Erickson-Hall, not the least because it will get students interested in the very construction sector he and his firm work in.

鈥淢any districts have done a great job integrating auto shop and mechanics into their curriculum, but some trades are not acknowledged in shop programs,鈥 Fisher said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to see this facility designed specifically to train students who will seek jobs in our industry, and to see the school system recognize our worth in the coming economy.鈥

Erickson-Hall reports that they have completed over $1 billion in school-related construction across the firm鈥檚 project portfolio.
