LOS ANGELES — California’s State Architect Chester A. Widom, FAIA, earlier this month launched a forward-thinking new sustainability initiative. Dubbed , the initiative will engage seven experienced architecture firms to develop seven case studies in sustainable school design for seven representative school campuses, according to a statement by the California Department of General Services (DGS).

GLASGOW, Scotland — Building on 2010-2015 strategic plan growth, the University of Glasgow is now moving forward on the design and construction of a new 150,000-square-foot research building on it’s 74-acre Gilmorehill Campus. The $58 million project will provide a state-of-the-art facility for university researchers to investigate significant global challenges including energy demand and waste management. The building is expected to be complete in 2019.
PORTLAND, Maine — In June 2015, Portland School Board member Marnie Morrione said the board needed commit to rebuilding Hall Elementary School. In December, the board did just that by recommending $1.3 million in additional local funding for the state-funded project. The issue will now go to the City Council, after passing a board vote on Dec. 8.
EUGENE, Ore. — Construction is scheduled to begin on a new 531-bed student dormitory on the east edge of the University or Oregon (UO) campus in Eugene later this spring or summer. UO officials advanced the project, which has been in the works for more than a year, by applying for a $31.5 million building permit from the city of Eugene in late December.
